Localization

Software File Localization

Extract the necessary translation strings from software resource files.

Translate the strings and review the translation.

Edit dialog size if necessary and review context.

Visually check dialog size and review context.

If bugs exist, document them and modify the test cases.

Determine whether bugs are localization or internationalization bugs.

Send them to the appropriate engineer for repair.

Test the re-engineered modules.

If no bugs exist, incorporate the modules into the main build source code.


Help, HTML, and XML Localization

Obtain existing glossary, if any, and add new terms to create a new version.

Obtain and leverage previous translation memory.

Translator translates the document.

Proofread and correct translation.

Compile files, test them, and repair links in HTML, XML, or compiled Help files.

Visually inspect files for translation, layout, and functioning links.

If errors exist, correct them and recompile the files.

Visually recheck them.

If no errors exist, create a new translation memory for the record and for use on the next version of the software.

Incorporate the modules into the main build source code.


Documentation Translation

Obtain existing glossary, if any, and add new terms to create a new version.

Obtain and leverage previous translation memory.

Translate the document.

Proofread the translated document.

If translation errors exist, correct translation.

Proofread translated document again.

If no errors exist, create a new translation memory for the record and for use on the next version of the software.

Begin the desktop publishing process.


Desktop Publishing

Obtain style sheets or style guide and implement them with Asian specifications.

Format the document.

Proofread the laid-out document.

If formatting errors exist, indicate corrections on document.

Re-format the document.

If no errors exist, create PDF files or hard copies and forward to the customer for approval.

Generate Postscript files or films for customer printing.
